Shillong, May 9: ICAR-ATARI Umiam organised its annual action plan workshop (AAPW) 2024 from April 29 to May 1, a delayed press release informed today.
AAPW 2024 culminated with the formulation of a strategic, systematic and scientific action plan based on region specific problems, agro-climate oriented technological adaptations for 43 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under Zone VII for 2024-25, a press release informed today.
The workshop was attended by heads of 43 KVKs across five North East states – Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura – along with scientists of research institutes.
In the presence of scholarly luminaries of different disciplines, the AAPW 2024 could delve into various critical issues, like technology applicability, accessibility, and affordability focusing on selection of appropriate innovative technologies developed by research institutes matching to the needs of stakeholders, keeping eye on sustaining hill agriculture.
AAPW 2024 was inaugurated by Florette G Dkhar, Principal of the North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) in the presence of Samarendra Hazarika, Head of the Division of System Research and Engineering (DSRE) at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, along with other dignitaries.
The event also featured the presence of a panel of experts from different disciplines, including Pranab Dutta, Professor (Plant Pathology) CPGS, CAU; Pranab Jyoti Sharma, Professor (Horticulture) College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai; SK Das, Principal Scientist (Fisheries), S Ghatak, Head of Division of Animal Husbandry and Fishery Sciences, and BP Singh, Head of Division of Technology Assessment and Capacity Building from ICAR Umiam.
Dkhar lauded the role of KVKs, the so-called global brand in Indian agriculture extension system, in reaching the unreached through a well-structured mechanism of technology assessment, refinement, application and demonstrations in the farmer’s field.
Earlier in his deliberation, AK Mohanty, Director of ICAR-ATARI Umiam, briefed the successful voyage of ICAR for the development of Indian agriculture and outlined the importance of AAPW and urged the KVK scientists to emphasise on unlocking agri-preneurship opportunities, indigenous germplasm conservation, climate resilience technologies and regenerative agriculture, while identifying technologies for field assessment, so that innovative technologies can be properly applied leading to successful implementation through policy planning.
