The Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong in-charge PWD (Roads) today informed that land has been partly handed over to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) for starting work to construct the Shillong Western By-Pass.
Tynsong today held a meeting with NHIDCL officials to review the status of the Shillong Western By-Pass and Shillong-Dawki road.
“Everything is on track and as far as Shillong Western By-Pass is concerned, land has been partly handed over to the NHIDCL by both the Deputy Commissioners of East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi,” Tynsong told media persons.
He said that soon the government will be able to hand over the remaining land on the entire stretch to the NHIDCL.
Tynsong also informed that work orders for the construction of the Shillong Western By-Pass have been issued to the contractors.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 681.63 crore as land compensation for the two-lane Shillong Western By-Pass road from Umsaw in Ri-Bhoi district to Lad Mawreng in East Khasi Hills.
The timeline for the completion of the 38.256 km road project is two years from the declaration of the commencement of the work.
On the status of the Shillong-Dawki road, Tynsong informed that work has started for the four-lane in Package I and also the two-lane road in Packages II, III and IV.
The road project has five packages. These include Rilbong to Mylliem Marbaniang covering 11.6 km, Mylliem Marbaniang to Wahlyngkhat of a length of 26.55 km, Wahlyngkhat to Siatbakon covering a bypass of 8 km (Pynursla by pass), Siatbakon to Umsyiem and Umsyiem to Tamabil in Dawki.
