Tura MDC Bernard N Marak has written to the Chief Minister to ask why a company by the name of ARSS Infrastructure Projects, which was removed from the Shillong-Dawki road project, has been allotted work in Garo Hills.
The question, posed on Sunday, came on the day a dumper truck belonging to the firm struck a boy, causing him severe injuries.
ARSS had its contract for the Mylliem to Pynursla stretch of the Shillong-Dawki road project terminated by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) last year. At the time, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that this was due to poor progress of work, as well as complaints about the company’s performance. In April last year, two people lost their lives in a landslide in Rngain along the route.
Marak called ARSS a “tainted” company and asked how such a firm could be working in Garo Hills and on what project.
This company’s vehicles have “caused many accidents in Garo Hills”. A youth became the latest casualty today after being dragged by ARSS’s dumper for a distance causing serious injuries to his leg.
A 14-year-old girl had also been injured by the company truck in a different incident earlier, also within the Tura MDC’s constituency.
Marak called for punishment for those who caused the accidents and a suspension of operations by ARSS, especially use of their trucks in Tura during the day.
