In separate operations yesterday, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya foiled attempts to smuggle cough syrup (phensedyl) and sugar over into Bangladesh.
Acting on a specific tip-off, the vigilant troops of the 4th Battalion seized 350 bottles of prohibited cough syrup while the consignment was on its way to the international border in West Jaintia Hills.
In other operations, more than 17 tonnes of sugar was also seized from different border districts of Meghalaya. The seized phensedyl and sugar were handed over to the local Customs officials for further legal proceedings.
