Members of the State Assembly are set to debate tomorrow on the address of Governor Phagu Chauhan.
Chauhan in his address in the Assembly on February 16 highlighted many initiatives taken by the Conrad Sangma government for development and economic growth of the State.
The first sparks will fly at 10 am when the question hour begins. Opposition members belonging to VPP, Trinamool Congress and Congress have said they will question the government on many issues during the question hour.
This will be followed by the debate on the Governor’s address.
MLAs especially those belonging to the opposition are likely to punch holes at the claims made by the State government in the Governor’s speech.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will reply to the debate on February 21 and on the same day he will present the budget for 2024-25.
The House will debate on the budget on February 23 and 27. In the afternoon of the same day the chief minister will give his reply and the budget will be passed.
While five days have been allotted for government business, only three days are listed for private members’ business. These are on February 20, 22 and 26.
Only in these three days, the MLAs especially those from the opposition can raise the issues of public importance through bills, motions and resolutions.
Interestingly, this is the shortest budget session in the history of the State with only eight working days.
