A Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), centre that involves restoring function for a person who has been disabled as a result of a disease, disorder, or injury was inaugurated in Laban here today.
Managing Director of the centre, Dr Lahunlang M Sohliya said the centre aims to offer neuro rehabilitation for a person with stroke, brain and spinal cord injury and neuromuscular disorders. It also offers musculoskeletal rehabilitation in rheumatology, pain and palliative care, paediatric rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy, growth and developmental delay and geriatric rehabilitation due to long hospitalisation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and sports injury.
She said the facilities made available at the centre are basic PT and OT equipments to be used for pain management and physical retraining, parallel bars and body weight Supported treadmill training (BWSTT) for ambulation and balance training, virtual reality (VR) which is an assistive rehabilitation technique, a form of rehabilitation not yet widely used even in the country.
The centre also offers the first Hydrotherapy pool in the North East (Water based therapy) for any form of musculoskeletal injury, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and steroid injections for joint and neuropathic disorders.
She said the centre will have a doctor, Psychologist, Physiotherapists (PT), Lab Technician and plans to include Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Prosthetist and Orthotist and Social Worker in the future.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh attended the inaugural function as the chief guest.
