The Deputy Syiem of Hima Sohra, Marremdor Syiem has said that Hima Sohra has nothing to do with the downfall of the Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL).
Speaking to media persons today, Syiem said the current situation in MCCL was due to the failure of the management to run the plant since the earlier years.
Syiem said that the Hima Sohra although a stakeholder does not have much say in the matters of the management of the government-run cement factory.
“Our agreement is only with the land. But how the plant is run is decided by the management (of the MCCL),” Syiem said.
When asked whether he sees the plant to start functioning again, the Deputy Syiem said that it all depends on the government since it is a government undertaking.
Syiem who is one of the members of the Board Directors of the MCCL said that the Hima Sohra wants that the plant should restart its operations and therefore it accepted the proposal for joint venture but with terms and conditions.
He said that the agreement between the government and the Hima Sohra has expired since February 2022 and the latter has sent several letters to renew the agreement.
Syiem informed that in recent weeks, the State government communicated to the Hima Sohra that it wants to renew its agreement even as he informed that they are waiting to see the terms of the renewal.
He also informed that the State government is yet to pay certain dues to the Hima relating to the land where the MCCL factory is located.
