The 3rd Meghalaya Farmers Parliament will be held on December 4-5, Hill Farmers Union (HFU) president Commander Shangpliang has informed Highland Post.
Like legislators in Parliament and state Assemblies, farmers taking part this year will have Question Hour where the government department will have to answer their queries.
Farmers will have to send their queries beforehand and they will be submitted to the concerned department and everything will be conducted just like during the assembly sessions where the same question will be asked again along with supplementary questions.
Participating farmers will be those involved in the cultivation of broom, fish farming, piggery, etc. However, numbers are limited to the capacity of the venue, the State Convention Centre .
Shangpliang also informed that many farmers are still not aware of how to approach the Farmers Commission, an autonomous body meant to take farmers’ problems to concerned government departments.
