Amid all the controversies on the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the State, NEHU vice chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla today praised the “resolute commitment” displayed by affiliated colleges in swiftly adopting the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) as envisioned in the NEP.
In a statement issued today, the NEHU vice chancellor said that as the 2023-24 academic session commenced, the university and its affiliated colleges have embarked on this “transformative educational journey to enrich the higher education landscape in Meghalaya”.
Expressing his satisfaction over the “unanimous acceptance of this reform” by the affiliated colleges, Prof. Shukla said, “Notably, not a single college has sought to postpone the implementation, signifying the unwavering dedication of these institutions to the uplift of education and the pursuit of excellence.”
Besides appreciating the college administrations for their proactive efforts in ensuring the smooth execution of the FYUP Scheme, he also acknowledged the instrumental role played by the principals of these colleges who have been integral to the entire process leading up to the decision to adopt the FYUP Scheme.
Prof. Shukla also announced that detailed evaluation procedures, along with the relevant ordinances and regulations governing these procedures, will be imminently communicated to the affiliated colleges.
“This initiative underscores NEHU’s commitment to ensuring a seamless transition to the new academic framework and to fostering a nurturing and conducive learning environment for students,” he said.
On the ongoing stance of non-cooperation by the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA), Prof. Shukla urged the association to reconsider its approach in the interest of the students’ community.
Further, he expressed his willingness to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve any concerns and invited the MCTA for an open discussion to achieve an amicable resolution.
In conclusion, Prof. Shukla emphasised that the adoption of the FYUP Scheme is a significant stride towards holistic education that will pave the way for a brighter and more enriching academic journey for the students.
