East Jaiñtia Hills police has registered a case against some persons for provoking a milieu between the police and the mob protesting the public hearing for expansion of the Meghalaya Cements Limited plant in Thangskai.
Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa quoted a video shown in a local news channel and said some persons had shouted provocative and incendiary slogans yesterday.
The SP said a case under section s 153B/503/504/506 IPC has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station and investigation is underway.
The concerned media outlet has also been asked to procure and analyse the video as mandated under Evidence Act.
“Meghalaya Police is committed to maintain communal harmony and any indiscretion in this regard will be dealt as per law,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Topcem Employee’s Association has demanded the removal of two employees of the company who they alleged were the ones who used provocative slogan, “maaro maaro” that incited the already tensed situation yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has lodged a FIR at Lumshnong police station against the provocative slogan.
“It appears that a large group/ mob, mostly comprising of non-tribal persons, were protesting at the said public hearing and during the same, the said mob resorted to sloganism, vandalism, disobeying the public servants, police personnel, etc., without any apparent reason and without any provocation whatsoever. As a result of the said mob, there was a clash between the concerned police personnel who were present at the said public hearing,” HITO said.
