The Sur ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep has accused the State government of using “tricks” to suppress justice for former militant Cherishterfield Thangkhiew.
Leader of the group Thomas Passah said that during their visit to the family today, they were told that the government had tried to offer their member jobs and even money, which they denied taking.
“It is very sad to see that the Government is trying all its tricks to suppress justice” he said.
Passah also said the group stands with the family in their fight for justice. “In the past we ran from pillar to post from one government department to another to seek justice, but to no avail. Now that the case has been filed at the High court of Meghalaya we hope that justice will come soon,” he added.
Thangkhiew was shot dead by police in a pre-dawn raid on his home in Mawlai Kynton Massar on August 13, 2021. He was suspected of involvement in the IED blast that rocked Laitumkhrah a few days prior. That attack was claimed by the outlawed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council, which Thangkhiew used to lead.
Meanwhile, the family has called on members of the society to take part in wreath laying ceremony on his second death anniversary.
