The Departments of Education, Khasi, History and English at Sankardev College, in collaboration with the state educational authorities and sponsored by State Bank of India’s Kenches Trace branch, organised a one day state level workshop on the theme ‘Implementation of NEP 2020 at the Foundational Stage: Issues and Concerns’ here today.
SSA State Project Director and Director of School Education and Literacy, Swapnil Tembe, emphasised that the foundational stage, which includes education of children below the age of 8, are crucial years of brain development. Hence, a robust foundation in early childhood is vital as it provides a strong basis and affects the performance of students in higher education. He informed the gathering that, recently, on the third anniversary of NEP 2020, the Prime Minister stressed on the need for the full implementation of the policy for the benefit of the students from early childhood.
At the inaugural session, IS Syiem, Associate Professor at the college’s Department of Education, gave a presentation on the theme of the workshop.
The resource persons for the workshop comprised Singje Ch Marak, State Early Childhood Care and Education Coordinator, Mary Wanpli Lynrah, State Pedagogy Coordinator and Nodal Officer for Implementation of FLN in Meghalaya, Melissa G Wallang, Head of the Department of Languages and Social Sciences, North-East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), and Prachi Ghildyal, Assistant Professor in Psychology at the Department of Education at NERIE.
The workshop was attended by teachers from 54 schools.
