A family in Rongsak village in East Garo Hills district has sought protection from the district administration after a group of persons allegedly destroyed a fencing laid on their agricultural land at Gonggnagre, claiming to have got the order from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Walling M. Sangma and Ponilla Ch. Marak in a complaint to the district magistrate said the act was committed by one Willot Ch. Marak and his associates on August 2 at around 8: 30 am.
The couple said Marak and his associates arrived at their land armed with local dao, crowbars and saws. “On seeing them, we got frightened and hide ourselves in nearby bushes. They exclaimed and shouted, “We have Orders from DC to destroyed the wooden fence” and suddenly then destroyed it,” they said.
Stating that the persons had earlier accused him of obstructing a public road connecting Rongatagre, Naregre and Rengregre villages in local newspapers, Walling said that a plot of land located near his agricultural land, was given by the Nokma after a request was made by Block Development Officer (BDO) of Samanda Block for construction of a motorable road.
He said a new kutcha road at the side of his land was constructed in collaboration with Gonggnagre A.king Nokma at Rs 10,000.
Walling said Marak and his associates are conspiring to commit criminal activities against the family and their property. “Anytime, they may come to destroy our properties and eliminate us, for that we are afraid of and hence we have to flee from our agricultural land for our life and safety,” he added.
While seeking stern action against the persons, the family has sought immediate protection and enquiry into the matter and urged the district administration to pass an order for them to sign a peace bond or any order to prevent the persons from committing further crimes.
