The State government today filed a report before the Meghalaya High Court stating that the debris by the side of the collapsed part of the PA Sangma Stadium, Tura has been cleared.
Photographs that have also been enclosed with the report revealed that the debris have been cleared and a somewhat motorable road is available.
However, the High Court observed that the road appears to be kutcha and the top layer appears to be of mud or the crushed debris.
“The State should endeavour to make the relevant road navigable and restore it to what it was prior to the collapse of a part of the relevant stadium,” the High Court said at today’s hearing.
The court also asked the State government to file another report on the restoration of the road at the next hearing to be held on August 17.
It may be mentioned that a resident of Tura, Amit R. Marak had filed a PIL in the division bench of the High Court following the collapse of a portion of the stadium on June 22.
The iconic stadium, inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma before the Assembly elections, was being built by the government at a cost of Rs 127 crore.
The collapse has raised a lot of questions on the quality of the work vis a vis the huge amount of money spent and the haste with which the stadium was inaugurated by the chief minister.
