The first Meghalaya Inter-School Taekwondo Championship 2023 was held at Army Public School, Umroi Military Station, July 22-23.
Altogether, 412 students from 96 schools from across Meghalaya participated in the championship. The championship was held in three age categories – U-14, U-17 and U-19 for boys and girls. The championship trophy was lifted by Kendriya Vidyalaya, Happy Valley.
The event was organised by the host school in collaboration with the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association and Taekwondo Association of Ri-Bhoi District.
The championship opened with a ceremony in the presence of a packed audience, which included martial artists from across Meghalaya, officers and dignitaries from the army stationed at Umroi and students.
During the ceremony, the official song of the championship was performed, written by Ajit Saikia and music composed by Baiaineh Kharumlong, both teachers of APS Umroi.
