The State government is in the process of identifying the chairperson for the expert committee to review the State job reservation policy.
Speaking to media persons here today, Sangma said that the government is waiting for some names before taking a final decision on the right person for appointment as the chairperson of the committee.
“We are waiting for about three to five names so that the government can examine. Once we get the names for the chairperson we will bring it to the cabinet for its decision,” he said.
Sangma informed that the government has received several names for appointment as members of the expert committee.
The statement by the chief minister followed his meeting with a delegation of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) which met him today to discuss the issue.
Speaking to media persons, VPP president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit who led the delegation said that the party met the chief minister to find out about the status of the expert committee.
“We met the chief minister as a follow-up action on our part in connection with the expert committee to review the reservation policy. We just want to know the status of the committee and how far it has proceeded since the day the government notified the committee,” Basaiawmoit said.
On the proposal of the government to appoint some people from outside the State as members of the expert committee, Basaiamoit said, “We leave it to the government. Our primary demand is to constitute an expert committee and the government is working on it. We do not have any issue on who is in the committee,” he added.
Basaiawmoit said that the chief minister has informed the VPP delegation that it will take around two or three weeks to complete the process of appointing the chairman and members of the committee.
“The chief minister has assured us that soon the government will announce the expert committee. As of now they are in the process of identifying the chairman of the committee,” Basaiawmoit said.
