A man was killed and eight people including five children were injured after a car they were travelling in fell off the cliff near Keniong village under South West Khasi Hills district this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Kalbinus Nongbri of Amarsang village. He along with his father, wife and five children were travelling from Nongstoiñ towards Nongjri village in an Alto K10 driven by one Kharawbor Nongsiang of Mawlyngdep village in West Khasi Hills.
Police said the incident occurred at around 11 am when the driver of the car (ML 04 B 1269) was trying to overtake a truck.
While Nongbri succumbed to his injuries at the spot, the grandfather Marius Nongbri (70) wife Merilin Nongmin (40) Dariti Nongmin (4), Erick Nongmin (10) and Rikormary Nongmin (7) and the driver were shifted to Shillong for further treatment.
The other children of the deceased, Ribanson Nongmin (8) and Michael Nongmin (5) are being given medical attention at CHC Mawkyrwat.
