The Voice of the People Party (VPP) is entitled to its agenda but must not cross limits and see that there is no attempt to breach the peace at its May 12 rally over the roster issue.
The VPP plans to march on the Secretariat over its touchstone issue and has called for the public to join in.
Today, Paul Lyngdoh told reporters that the VPP is free to concentrate on the agenda of its choosing.
However, he is of the opinion that the roster system matter should fundamentally be decided by ministers in cabinet and elected members in the state Assembly. “I think it should ideally be left at that stage because even the Chief Minister made it very clear that [after voting in] Sohiong the matter will be taken out at the all-party meet level and the cabinet in consultation with various groups across the state who have expressed themselves in various forms.”
The roster system and the state’s job reservation policy go hand in hand and cannot be discussed in isolation, he explained when asked which issue will be discussed.
