Fifty percent of seats in the new National Law University, Meghalaya, have been reserved for local students, the Vice-Chancellor said today, while encouraging those looking to pursue a legal career to sign up for the first batch, which will begin in July.

The VC, Prof Indrajit Dube, said this at a press conference held today in the presence of Commissioner and Secretary of Education Pravin Bakshi and Meghalaya High Court Registrar E Kharumnuid at the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy here.

The university will offer BA LLB, BS LLB, BBA LLB (all five-year dual degree law programmes after Class 12) and a Post Graduate Programme in Law (LL.M Major in Corporate Law) commencing from July. The university will function from the Mayurbhanj Complex at Nongthymmai, Shillong.

Online applications opened on April 21 and will end on May 21, with the admissions test scheduled for May 28. The merit list will then be published on June 9 and classes will begin from July 10.

There are 60 undergraduate seats – 20 each in the BA LLB, BS LLB and BBA LLB honours – and there will be 10 postgraduates students, Dube informed. He also mentioned that the annual fee structure for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is much lower than that of private colleges and universities and other national universities .

Informing that 50 percent of the seats in the university are reserved for the domiciled residents of Meghalaya, he urged the students and aspiring lawyers of the state to take advantage of the opportunity and get themselves enrolled.

Applicants can visit the university website www.nlumeg.ac.in for more information.
