Acting on specific information, anti-narcotics police in Ri-Bhoi today detained two suspected drug peddlers and seized 16.2kg of cannabis on an inter-state bus.
The Assam-registered tourist bus (AS 01LC 1412) was passing through Byrnihat when it was intercepted by police.
Two suspected peddlers, Rohit Kumar and Premlata Devi (both from Bihar), were transporting the drugs from Tripura to their native state.
Five packages were found containing 16.2kg of cannabis.
A criminal case will be taken up against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The illegal contraband, along with two mobile phones, were seized for further investigation.
