Senior advocate VGK Kynta today said that 2024 may be the last Lok Sabha election where Meghalaya has two seats.
Meghalaya currently has two MPs in the lower house of Parliament, one representing Garo Hills through the Tura seat and one for Khasi-Jaintia Hills through the Shillong seat.
Speaking to reporters today, Kynta said that, according to information (as yet unconfirmed) he has seen by the Election Commission of India, Meghalaya could be reduced to just one seat after 2024.
He said that the two MPs should ensure that Meghalaya retains two seats in Parliament.
Meanwhile, Kynta today said that there have been many people who have urged him to run in next year’s scheduled Lok Sabha election but no political party has approached him; Kynta has yet to make up his mind on the issue.
He had earlier this month quit the Bharatiya Janata Party, which he had joined only in November, on account of not being given a role in the party.
