Meghalaya has “drastically reduced malaria morbidity and mortality” over the last few years and needs to continue to carry forward this momentum.
This was stated by the Deputy Director of Health Services (M) and State Programme Officer of NCVBDC Meghalaya on the eve of World Malaria Day, which is observed every year on April 25 across the world to raise the awareness and intensify the efforts towards reaching the goal of malaria elimination.
The theme of this year’s WMD is ‘Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement.’ WMD 2023 is an opportunity to synergise efforts to mobilise resources and actions to beat malaria by covering the last mile to reach the most vulnerable people across the state, the DDHS said.
The national aim is to eliminate malaria from the country by 2027 and to sustain zero indigenous cases by 2030.
“Together let us join hands and pledge towards achieving the goal of malaria elimination in the state by 2030 along with the rest of the country,” the DDHS added.
