The Meghalaya Upper Primary Schools Teachers Association (MUPSTA) met new Education Minister, Rakkam Sangma, here today to remind him about a proposal to upgrade the 844 upper primary ad hoc schools to the deficit system.
All the 844 schools have already sent the required documentation to the state government, the association said in the memo it presented to Sangma, in this regard by 2020 but the issue is still pending.
MUPSTA has held several sit-ins and other demonstrations to press the government over the issue but with no success so far.
Meanwhile, the All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association also met with Sangma and presented a lengthy memorandum to him.
The association, which represents more than 1,500 4th teachers, wants regularisation of service, equal salary on par with their peers in ad hoc, deficit and government schools, regular disbursement of their salaries and a 5 percent annual wage hike.
