The General Observer for Nongpoh constituency, K Veera Raghava Rao, visited polling stations at Diwon, Umrang Nongbah and Bleishah yesterday as part of the preparations for a free and fair February 27 election.
Rao was also accompanied by the Assistant Returning Officer, Zonal Magistrate, Sector Officer and Booth Level Officers.
The General Observer inspected the assured minimum facilities (AMFs) of the polling stations, the venues for the polling booth and the surrounding premises of the polling stations.
During the visit, Rao interacted with the Zonal Magistrate of Zone IV, the Sector Officer of Sector 10, the BLOs of the respective polling stations as well as local community members.
Through the interactions, he was briefed on the total number of male and female voters, the AMF shortages that will be addressed before the polls and the number of villages surrounding the polling stations.
The General Observer briefed the officials on their respective roles and responsibilities and the importance of ensuring that the elections are free and fair as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
