SSA teachers, under the banner of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA), have asked the government to expedite the process to appoint the Chairperson and members of Meghalaya State Education Commission.
The teachers, led by MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai, today met Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on the matter.
Speaking to this reporter, Rymbai said that the cabinet on November 9 approved the formation of the Meghalaya State Education Commission.
He said that Tynsong told them today that the government has instituted a search committee headed by the Chief Secretary and the search committee will submit names for the purpose.
Rymbai also said that they have also asked the government to released their pending salaries of October and November before Christmas and Tynsong assured them in the presence of the Education Secretary Ambrose Marak that yesterday a meeting between the Education and Finance Departments was convened and the latter gave its commitment to release the salary of the SSA teachers before Christmas.
