The Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Rev Fr Angel Fernandez Artime, today paid a visit to Nongpoh parish as the Salesians prepare to commemorate the 100th year of the arrival of the Catholic missionaries to the North East.
Rev Fr Fernandez is the head of all institutes of the Salesians of Don Bosco worldwide. He is the 10th successor of Don Bosco and the first Spaniard and third non-Italian to become Rector in Salesian history.
The Salesians will celebrate the centenary on October 30 at the Shillong Cathedral to recall the journey that began 100 years ago with the first Catholic missionaries of the religious institute to the North East.
The Rector Major was welcomed by the Nongpoh parish priest, Fr Peter Syiemlieh, and the church leaders and school children during his second visit to the town.
Addressing the gathering during his visit, Rev Fr Fernandez expressed his immense pleasure to interact with the various Catholic leaders and children of the school run by the Salesians and he said that the institute will continue to serve the people spiritually and physically.
