Taxation Minister James Sangma said the State government is in the process of preparing the draft ordinance to repeal the controversial Meghalaya Gaming Act.
“So this is the process whenever the Assembly is not in session. To enact any law or for that matter in this case to repeal an existing law it has to take the route of an ordinance,” Sangma told media persons here today.
According to him, a repeal is much more complicated than coming up with a new law or ordinance.
“We are doing due diligence because once we repeal we do not want any kind of legal wrangling or hassles. So we are making sure that we do everything in a very organised and systematic manner,” he added.
Recently, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that the Gaming Act of 2021 will be repealed through an ordinance which will then be regularised in the Assembly.
Last year, the Department of Taxation introduced the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021 for the regulations of gaming in the State.
