In another milestone in serving the people, especially homeless senior citizens of Meghalaya, Kripa Foundation inaugurated the Victoria Senior Citizens Home in Umroi, Ri-Bhoi, today.

Old age homes were almost unthinkable just a few years ago, as people generally live in joint families in Meghalaya and the clan structure was meant to help those who fell on hard times.

However, the modern age has caught up with the state and there are numerous homeless people in Meghalaya, which has led Kripa to open the new facility.

Kripa has also become respected for its work to help drug addicts and others in need of help.

The senior home was opened by Fr Joe Pareira, the Kripa Foundation founder.

Secretary of Health and Family Welfare and former Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah and District Social and Welfare Officer Emy Kharshandi were also present on the occasion, along with headmen and other dignitaries.

Fr Pareira said that this home has been set up to serve the senior citizens of Meghalaya who are homeless and have no family looking after them.

Kurbah expressed her immense pleasure to see that such a holistic approach is being set up in the state and this will be a blessing for those senior citizens who are homeless and have nobody to look after them in their twilight years.

She also assured that the government will work with the organisation so that the old age home lives up to its purpose.
