Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who also holds the Public Works Department (Roads) portfolio, informed that the re-tendering process for the Shillong-Dawki Road will take place soon.
Work to expand the Shillong-Dawki road to four lanes has been delayed due to opposition from landowners.
Tynsong said that when he was in New Delhi last, he had met with the managing director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL).
“I have apprised him of this issue very soon the re-tendering will take place,” Tynsong said.
The department has also instructed NHIDCL to call for a tender to repair the Umiam-Shillong section of National Highway 6.
“The DPR (detailed project report) and the estimate is being worked out right now by NHIDCL. Very soon they will invite a tender for black-topping and modification of this road,” the minister informed, adding that NHIDCL has been asked to expedite the matter as this is the main route to connect Shillong to the outside world.
Meanwhile, the work order for the Umtyngar to Sohra road has been issued. Contractors had started black-topping work but this was halted due to the monsoons. Once the rains pass, they will complete the work on the entire stretch. The foundation stone for the project was laid in March 2021 but delays brought on by Covid-19 and the rainy season proved to be hurdles.
