Sunny Hill locality has stepped up its security and has taken an initiative to make the neighbourhood safer and secure by installing 25 close circuit television (CCTV).
Rangbah shnong M. Lyngdoh informed that with the installation of CCTVs the dorbar has been able to nab nearly five people involved in theft.
“What is sad to see is that these persons involved in such crimes are stealing just so that they can get money to buy drugs. The children are between the age of 14 and 18,” Lyngdoh said.
The dorbar has also appointed some residents who are in charge of the CCTVs and with an installed app on their phones they monitor every nook and corner of the neighbourhood.
West Shillong MLA, Mohendro Rapsang had provided Rs 3, 49,400 for the installation of the cameras.
At a function held today, Rapsang lauded the farsightedness of the dorbar and said he was impressed how the dorbar has adapted to modern technology.
During the program held at the dorbar hall the MLA also handed over cheques for other developmental works done in the locality such as reconstruction of drains and improvement of water supply in the locality.
Rapsang further placed before the dorbar the concept of urban kitchen garden. “Any household in urban areas can convert the kitchen waste to the garden and from the garden to the kitchen. This concept is new in our state so I want that it is implemented in my constituency,” he said.
Under West Shillong there are a total of 10 localities, for the first phase, the MLA said he will provide planting materials to 30 households and since Lower Mawprem locality is larger the materials will be given to 200 households. He added that if it is successful in the next phase it will be given to every household.
