The Dorbar Shnong of Pathardaro has, in a dispute with a woman who lives there, torn up her crops, cut off her water supply and ostracised her family.
According to the woman, this is all because the village dorbar has deemed her to be a non-local.
These incidents took place in January but have only been recently reported to police by the victim, Regina Marbaniang.
She said that Pathordaro village leaders and residents came to her property on January 23 and destroyed her crops of pineapple and betel nut. Even the piped water connection she received under the Jal Jeevan Mission was disconnected by the village. Marbaniang is convinced that she has been treated appallingly because the family is poor and illiterate.
Receiving no support from any quarter, she finally filed a police complaint.
