The United Democratic Party (UDP) youth wing has called on the Education Department to mandate a uniform process and timetable for college admissions in Meghalaya.
In a letter to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today, the UDP youth wing said that there is no uniformity in dates announced for the submission of applications, declaration of results of admission or last date for payment of fees. This puts poor students and those from rural areas at a pronounced disadvantage when seeking admission in Shillong colleges, for example.
During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government had brought about uniformity in the whole process and the UDP wants this system reintroduced.
