The programme was attended by 50 farmers, sellers and exporters from the district.
Scientists from NIPHM talked about plant quarantine and phyto-sanitary measures to be undertaken to ensure production of disease- and pest-free plants for export.
They discussed about the procedures to obtain phyto-sanitary certificates, hot water treatment of fruits, vapour heat treatment, cold treatment, wooden packaging materials and irradiation technologies.
It was emphasized to the farmers that they should focus on production of surplus quantities of ginger, turmeric, pineapple and Khasi mandarin in the district with an intention to meet international standards for export promotion.
