The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) today informed that the Director of Education and Literacy, Ambrose Marak, has assured the pressure group that seats will be provided for members of the Khasi-Jaiñtia community at the College of Teacher Education in Rongkhon, Tura.
HITO had last week alleged that the college does not follow state reservation rules.
Speaking to reporters today, HITO president Donbok Dkhar informed that Marak gave a positive response on admission to the B.Ed degree and had forwarded the written information regarding the issue to the Education Minister.
HITO said that the course has 50 seats, 25 per cent of which is reserved for in-service teachers and another 25 per cent for pre-service teachers. Eighty per cent is also reserved for Khasi-Jaiñtia and Garo applicants, 4 per cent for Scheduled Cast, OBC, people with disabilities and other Scheduled Tribes and 8 per cent general.
