The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has cautioned the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) against implementing the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in haste, which gives no room for students to prepare.
Seeking temporary restraint from NEHU to implement it for the UG and PG courses, AHAM president George Prince Momin said that the organisation accepts the value of CUET but its introduction after two years of Covid lockdown would be disastrous than being beneficial to students.
“The students of the region especially Garo Hills is struggling to get a quality education and adding another hurdle to it is bringing down the chapter of the future of the students here,” he said
Momin said that the organisation would also meet chief minister, education minister and NEHU vice chancellor on the matter.
Meanwhile, AHAM has decided to convert all its units to information centres for students who are willing to join UG and PG courses in central universities and colleges.
The decision was taken today at an emergent meeting. Momin said that the organisation would offer its help in the registration process.
He also informed that the organisation will hold an awareness programme on CUET in all the districts in the Garo Hills region.
