Manuel Badwar, secretary in charge of social media of the Congress today said that the daily wage workers should be compensated as the government has already collected a huge amount of labour cess.
Badwar said this during the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) protest at Congress Bhawan against fuel hikes and price rises of essential commodities affecting the common man on Saturday.
Stating that beyond the hand to mouth existence, the poor hands are not reaching their mouths in the present scenario, the youth congress also rubbished the reason given by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and others that the price hike in petrol, diesel, and cooking gas is due to Russia- Ukraine war.
The youth congress also termed another reason cited by the government, that price rise is the inability of trucks to enter the city during the day, as lame excuse.
He said the government should make sure that the workers get their dues in times of crisis like this.
Mahila Congress president Joplin Shylla pointed out that it is an irony that different localities in the city are having different price indexes which will have to be controlled by the administration.
The President of MPYC, Adrian L Chyne Mylliem stated that the hike in fuel price has brought undue hardships to the people of the state.
