TMC leader, Zenith Sangma today accused Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of “cheating and lying” to the people of the State and said the government had gone ahead with signing the border deal with Assam without their consent.
Zenith, who visited Maikhuli village along the inter-state border in Ri Bhoi district with Salmanpara MLA Winnerson D Sangma, during a public meeting held at the village discussed on the recent decision made by the State government to hand over some parts of the village including a fishing pond, which villagers are not willing to part with.
“The Chief Minister has misled the Assembly, because our visit to ground zero reveals that none of these people want to be part to Assam. Our Chief Minister said that the MoU was signed after taking the consent of the people which is a big lie… this is proof that the MDA government cheated their own people,” Zenith said.
He said the people in these areas are crying for help and Assam continues to disturb them. “The footpath has been constructed under MGNREGA sanctioned by the government of Meghalaya but the Assam government destroyed it and set-up their new government office under the jurisdiction of Meghalaya. This shows the weakness of the MDA government” Zenith stated.
During the visit, Zenith along with the local residents inspected some part of Barapathar, Mawiong, Iongkhuli and Maikhuli villages.
He said that based on his interaction with the people there it is evident that they want to be part of Meghalaya.
The gathering was also attended by Garo Students Union, headman of Maikhuli and residents of the area.
