The Education Department has rejected the demand by Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) to upgrade ad hoc schools into a deficit system.
The department however offered to enhance the salary of ad hoc school teachers to Rs 18,000.
FASTOM president Kenneth Shadap today said that State Education Secretary Ambrose Ch. Marak has categorically made it clear that upgrading ad hoc schools to a deficit pattern was impossible due to fund constraints.
“The Education Secretary has instead offered to enhance the salary of ad hoc school teachers to Rs 18,000,” Shadap said.
Shadap also said that the proposed salary enhancement will be uniform for all ad hoc school teachers serving in higher secondary level, science teachers in secondary level, assistant teachers in upper primary and lower primary levels and Hindi teachers.
“The annual expenditure for payment of salary for ad hoc school teachers is around Rs 145 crore. If the proposed salary enhancement is implemented, the additional expenditure will come to around Rs 13 crore per month and Rs 156 crore per year,” Shadap said.
He also requested the State government to give 5 per cent annual increment to ad hoc school teachers and to enhance the salary of headmasters, headmistresses and school principals as they have to work for extra time.
