Former chief minister and AITC leader Dr Mukul Sangma today stated that illegal coal mining will result in formation of new militant outfits and with the government’s denial the State will go back to the past.
Sangma said there are “other forces” that are being funded to float new militant groups. “There are already movements taking place,” he told reporters.
He also displayed the recent video of coal mining and two related photos before the media and said rampant illegal coal mining and transportation is taking place with impunity.
“It is dangerous. One has to understand the multiple negative ramifications that lack of governance and the quantum of corruption that is taking place,” he asserted.
Sangma said that the recent arrests of a coal trader in Guwahati based on an FIR lodged by the Assam tax department for tax evasion of Rs 40 crore, was just a tip of the iceberg.
He said the government is in a constant denial mode because it supports illegal coal mining and transportation. Asked if the AITC would demand for a CBI probe, Sangma said, “If you expect the authorities who are responsible for emboldening all these illegalities that is happening how do you expect any evidence to be generated. They will come back and say nothing is happening. Now we have proved beyond reasonable doubt that this is happening because of the kind of patronage being given by the people in authorities. Therefore, how can you expect these authorities to actually do justice? Do you expect a thief to catch himself?”
