South Garo Hills police yesterday arrested one Ryan Ashee S Marak from the Tourist Lodge in Baghmara after a tip off to the effect that the person in question was part of a drug peddling racket.
According to police sources, information was received that one suspected drug peddler was supposed to deliver a consignment of narcotic substances to another person at the lodge.
Upon receiving the information, an Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team along with an officer from the Baghmara police station confronted the suspect. Upon searching a bag carried by Marak, police recovered 3,010 yaba (a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine) tablets weighing 291 grammes.
A further check of the vehicle (AS 01 AQ 5949) of the suspect revealed another 2,016 yaba tablets weighing another 198 grammes.
Police have arrested the accused and seized his vehicle.
“A case has been registered against him and he has been brought to the Baghmara PS for further necessary action and investigation. He has been arrested for possession of suspected narcotic substances,” informed the SGH police through their social media handle.
