Social activist, Agnes Kharshiing has lodged a FIR after a video of a landslide at Rngain went viral on social media stating that the incident has put the lives of many people commuting through the roads in danger.
In the video reportedly shot yesterday, boulders were seen rolling from a hilltop at Rngain as traffic was temporarily halted.
Kharshiing said blasting of stones is an everyday affair in the area, which is situated next to the National Highway and those responsible should be booked as per law.
She sought investigation if the mine lease owners around these areas are using explosives and whether permission was sought as per the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and section 15 of the Act and whether these owners obtained permission from the deputy commissioner, PWD or block development officer for blasting of stones.
In the FIR, she further asked police to investigate if the heads of the Ministry of Environment of Forest, Soil, Forest and Mining Geology departments, District Administration, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board are given a copy of the project in the area where blasting of stones is allowed.
