Personnel from the third, fourth, fifth and sixth battalions of Meghalaya Police deployed for security duty in New Delhi have complained of various deficiencies and poor treatment by authorities.
According to the police personnel, they were not allowed to take leave unless there was somebody for duty replacement.
“Even if we are allowed to take leave, we don’t get to go to our own State in time as we cannot book train ticket in advance,” one of the personnel said.
He also alleged that the State government did not take any measures as far as uniforms and clothing for personnel third, fourth, fifth and sixth battalions of Meghalaya Police.
“We were asked to wear tracksuits procured by the officers. We don’t know whether we will have to pay for the tracksuits or if the cost will be deducted from our salary. Actually, in a cold place like Delhi we should be supplied with warm clothing such as jackets since winter is approaching,” he said.
Other personnel said that the ration supplied to them contains only rice and dal packed in a tiffin box and that they have to cook the vegetables.
“We don’t have any problem with cooking the vegetables but we have to buy the utensils, gas stove and gas cylinder from our own pocket,” one of them said.
He also said that potato, onion and fresh vegetables were supplied to the personnel every week.
“But the fresh vegetables that were supplied were rotten ones. We cannot do anything because the officers will be angry with us if we complain,” he added.
The personnel also complained about the lack of toilets in the quarters.
“We have to use public toilets. This is difficult for us whenever we don’t have anybody to substitute us during duty hours. Further, it is also a security risk especially at night,” he said.
Presently, the Meghalaya Police personnel deployed for duty in Delhi are from the fourth battalion which recently took over from the third battalion.
