Congress legislator, Ampareen Lyngdoh has said that leader of opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma is a “Congressman to the core”.
“There needs to be sufficient reason for Dr. Mukul Sangma to exit from the Congress,” Lyngdoh said.
She said that it is not going to be a simple thing for Dr. Sangma who has been in the party for so long to leave it.
“Our party should also adopt a tolerant approach. We should not try to further aggravate the situation by doing this and that. The very fact that there seems to be a resolution already unfolding, we take it at that,” Lyngdoh said referring to the recent meeting between Rahul Gandhi, Dr. Sangma and State Congress president Vincent Pala.
Lyngdoh said that every individual in the Congress is important to the party.
She also said that Dr. Sangma is in charge for the Rajabala by-election and he should take it seriously.
“He is the convenor of the Rajabala by-election. So his performance will be very important. He should perform and make sure that the candidate wins,” Lyngdoh added.
On reports that several MLAs are likely to demand removal of Dr. Sangma as the Congress Legislature Party leader, Lyngdoh added that she has not heard of such a move.
She said that if there is a need (to remove the CLP leader) the party will engage.
“Firstly, you have to verify if there is a truth that our CLP leader had (tried) engineered a coup. We have to investigate, find out. We have a disciplinary committee that will take its own course if there is enough evidence (against Dr. Sangma),” Lyngdoh added.
She said that within the party the Congress believes such reports are not true.
