The vacant Mawphlang Assembly seat will fall firmly within the grasp of the United Democratic Party once the by-election to choose its new legislator is held, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh has said.
The seat became vacant following the sudden death of its MLA, Syntar Klas Sunn. Sunn had won the 2018 election as an independent but then became an ‘associate member’ of the UDP.
While not wanting to talk too much about it given that the people are still in mourning over Sunn’s loss, Mawthoh expressed full confidence that the regional party will win the by-election when it comes.
“The late Sunn won the Mawphlang seat and joined the UDP as an associate member. That was itself an indication of the UDP romping to victory this time and we are very confident,” Mawthoh said.
