Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has refused to divulge details regarding the arrest of so-called social activist Joannes Lamare and three others who were arrested on suspicion of trying to form a militant outfit.
“The case is under investigation and it is too premature for me to say anything on that issue,” Rymbui said today.
Lamare, along with three others were arrested on September 18 for subversive activities, allegedly having sought help from Naga militants to form a new rebel outfit in Meghalaya.
The other three arrested with Lamare were identified as Carmel Redrick Malngiang, Vicky Mawnai and Everpearl Mawsor.
Police informed that the four were intercepted while returning from Dimapur’s Hebron Camp.
The Home Minister also said that the government needs the cooperation of the public to ensure that peace and tranquillity in the state prevail.
On reports of a regrouping of militant outfits in Meghalaya, Rymbui said, “As of now, I am happy that people (have) come forward and informed the police of any (illegal) activities. It is the joint duty of the police and the public to see that the law and order in the state prevails,” he added.
