The Khliehriat CHC is functioning without a x-ray machine which is said to be non-functional for over six years causing inconvenience to patients.
According to the Khliehriat Block Congress Committee, people in East Jaintia Hills continue to suffer due to non-availability of digital X-Ray machine at the CHC as patients have to get services outside the centre.
Piwell Shylla, working president of the committee said, “It is surprising that the only CHC in the district does not even have a basic machine especially during this pandemic.”
He said an x-ray machine was available at the CHC but after developing faults for about five to six years authorities have not taken the task to rectify or procure a new machine.
“If the State government could provide oxygen cylinders in its fight against Covid-19, why it cannot also provide an x-ray machine?” Shylla questioned.
The committee further demanded that the government should upgrade the CHC into a civil hospital. “If the MDA government could create districts it can as well upgrade CHCs which would be beneficial for the people,” Shylla added.
