As part of the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-India @75, a skit depicting the freedom struggle of Khasi patriot, U Tirot Sing Syiem was performed by Seng Biria Dei Por (SBDP) at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission today.
The programme was organised by the Office of the District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Mairang Civil Sub-Division and the District Sports Promotion Society, West Khasi Hills District.
Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, P.M Syiemlieh who attended the programme as the chief guest said that the celebration provides an opportunity for the country to honour its freedom fighters of which includes U Tirot Sing Syiem whose act of valour and sacrifice in the freedom struggle against the British and whose affection for his land and its people continue to inspire generations.
He also expressed hope that the celebration encourages the citizens to emulate the life and teachings of U Tirot Sing Syiem and the other freedom fighters of the country who have fought and lost their lives in the quest to free it from foreign rule.
Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Mairang Civil Sub-Division, A. Nongbri, Block Development Officer, Mairang C&RD Block, V. Swer, District Sports Officer, West Khasi Hills District, P.B Nongbri, Syiem Khynnah of Hima Nongkhlaw, K. M Syiemlieh, Headmen of the area and others attended the programme.
