Two former HNLC cadres, Herman Pakynteiñ and Elvinson L. Nonglait alias Treng Saw have rubbished the allegations that they colluded with police in the gunning down of Cherishterfield Thangkhiew, the former general secretary of the banned outfit.
It may be mentioned that HNLC general secretary Saiñkupar Nongtraw today alleged that Thangkhiew had received a death threat five days ago from Pakynteiñ and that he along with Nonglait were involved with the police in killing Thangkhiew.
Speaking to media persons here today, both Pakynteiñ and Nonglait said that they were shocked when they saw the HNLC allegations against them in the social media.
They also said that after their surrender they earned their livelihood through contract works.
“I am so upset with the allegations by HNLC that I and Pakynteiñ were involved in the killing. As a matter of fact, we were members of the Tyllilang Welfare Organisation, a group of former HNLC members of which Thangkhiew is the adviser,” Nonglait said.
“We always respected Thangkhiew as our leader. To accuse us of being involved in his killing is totally unacceptable,” he added.
Nonglait also said that this was not the first time that former HNLC cadres were accused and threatened by the outfit.
“I have nothing against HNLC but if they accuse us for things that we did not do is shameful and if the truth comes out they will really regret making such allegations,” he said.
Similarly, Pakynteiñ said that the allegations by Nongtraw were baseless and shocking.
“I cannot accept this allegation. It is shocking and I am very upset with it,” he said.
“Maybe Nongtraw has a personal hate against me after I left the HNLC or maybe there is some other reason which I don’t know. After I surrendered I have never interfered with the activities of HNLC since I was busy with my own livelihood,” Pakynteiñ said.
“I want to make it clear that I am not involved in the death of Thangkhiew who is my former leader,” he said.
On the allegations made by HNLC that he was involved in various illegal activities and money collection with one Kynsai War, Pakynteiñ said, “Those who accuse me should come forward and lodge an FIR against me.”
