The Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Benedic R Marak, held meetings in New Delhi yesterday to petition the central government to provide financial assistance to the council for various projects.
In a press release, Marak said that the GHADC delegation which he led also comprised his chief adviser, Akki A Sangma, and Agriculture EM Pramod Koch.
They visited Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore and Union Minister of State BL Verma, who holds the portfolio of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Cooperation.
Funds were sought for special assistance/grant-in-aid from Tribal Affairs; construction of shopping complexes in all district headquarters in Garo Hills and the construction of a GHADC House in New Delhi from Housing and Urban Affairs; and other developmental infrastructure from DoNER and Cooperation.
Marak said that the central government figures were all positive about the requests.
