The Thma U Rangli has demanded institution of an independent probe to be headed by a judge of the High Court into the killing of ex-general secretary of the HNLC, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
The former militant outfit leader was killed early this morning in a reported ‘retaliatory fight’ with police.
In a statement, TUR member Angela Rangad said, “Bloodshed and killings will destroy, weaken and disturb peace in the society.” She said people should be alert of elements who try to turn the state into a battleground to meet their nefarious needs.
TUR said the organisation will continue to stand against laws that violate human rights like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
